TOWNS:

Barnstaple (5 miles) is the country’s oldest borough and the regional retail, leisure and commercial centre. Set on the river Taw the town has a selection of shops and is famous for its pannier market. The town is at the centre of the Tarka Trail that provides walking or cycling routes north to the coastal resorts and south along the banks of the Taw to Bideford and beyond.

 

Great Torrington (5 miles) sits high on a cliff top overlooking the Torridge valley. The town is famous as the site of the last battle of the Civil War in 1646. The town is home to some of the areas most popular tourist attractions including the RHS Rosemoor Gardens, Dartington Glass and the Torrington 1646 exhibition.
Other towns in easy reach include South Molton, the gateway to Exmoor and Holsworthy both with their weekly livestock and street markets, Instow a charming waterside village with golden sands and Appledore, a pretty fishing village.

	Historic Houses The National Trust properties of Arlington Court, Knightshayes Court and Killerton are in easy reach of Bulworthy Cottage. A longer day out can take you to Castle Drogo on the edge of Dartmoor or Dunster Castle just across the border into Somerset.
